If Kuroma, who has mana as the power source and can absorb natural power from the world, were to make use of it, one could perform different kinds of Dark Arts. Amid casting and chanting a spell, one would need to write a series of glyphs in mid-air, most often with their finger and clear mental images for the proper or a much stronger manifestation of the spell being formed. The number of lines determines the spells' power and rank: for example, White Breath is classified as a First Tier and Frozen Shade is classified as a Third Tier, the former requires one line and the latter three lines to be activated. If a Kuroma is skilled enough, then the power can be adjusted based off of their needs and even a curse can be added to the spell. Dark Arts can also be used to enchant their or someone else's weapon, as shown in the anime as Shizuno used "Freezing Shade" to enchant Satsuki's Arciel to release a freezing slash.
As Dark Arts are good for destruction, there are few spells capable of either healing or repairing people or things, however, there are rare Kuroma who has the innate qualities to perform and master Healing-based Dark Arts. It is a rare talent said to have been bestowed onto them by God, which requires this trait or great effort to master to the fullest potential. However, due to the natural opposition between both mana and prana, if a Kuroma pours their mana into a Shirogane, then their prana would react to the "invasion" and cause the Shirogane's prana to activate their recuperative powers.
Forbidden Spells[]
Among Dark Arts, their normal ranks are split from 1st to 9th Tier, however, it requires a Kuroma to be at least an A Rank to make use of a Fifth Tier Dark Art: Black Gehenna. If a Dark Art is classified as a 13th Tier, then it becomes known as a Forbidden Spell (闇術,Gonju), something that causes vast and permanent changes to the environment, thus forcing maps to be redrawn. Such Forbidden Spells would need mana that surpasses human limitations and absorbs vast mana from the natural world, something which would then become known as an Origin, unique to that particular person impossible for others to even replicate. Among them, Vasilisa Yuryevna Mostovaya and Moroha Haimura, both of whom have more than one Forbidden Spell became known as Grimoire Holders (禁呪保持者,Gonju Hojisha, lit. "Forbidden Magic Holder").
Golems[]
Unique among Kuroma, there are those capable of manifesting their own Golems (ゴーレム,Gōremu), which can be manifested with an ID Tag. As such, the Golems provide them with much support in the process of casting Dark Arts, something that leaves them almost vulnerable without proper protection from Shirogane. Among the White Knight Order, the people capable of creating Golems are among the French Branch, having techniques meant to create them. However, the 1st Generation PSG created a secret formula meant to create them using modern materials, something that Moroha and Vasilisa aren't capable of replicating. Among them the 9th Generation PSG, Louise Saint-Germain, who has mana surpassing Vasilisa, an S Rank is capable of performing the same feat as the 1st Generation, and can make Golems from Metaphysicals.
Anti-Soul[]
Among the techniques known to the Kuroma from their past lives as Great Magicians, there is a method known as a "method meant to reverse magic-imbued words", otherwise known as Anti-Soul (反魂,Hangon, lit. "Reviving the Dead"). In this, the Kuroma can turn their incantation in another direction, for example: reversing the incantation for Incinerate would instead produce freezing flames. In this, one's would use artificial means of causing their mana to run wild, which disturbed the laws of physics, if mastered, it allows a Magician to surpass their limits and cast powerful spells. It, however, is a dangerous technique to master, as Shizuno, who used Anti-Soul to manifest the 13th Tier Dark Art: Cocytus, resulting in her death if Satsuki didn't heal her.
Unnamed Technique[]
A combined technique between Moroha and Shizuno, albeit unnamed, but the two learned to intertwine both their mana and chanting at the same time, with their hands overlapped, causing the spell's power to be increased by a dramatic extent. Although, it isn't as strong as Anti-Soul, it could increase the power of the Moonlight Javelin, to where the point of rivaling an 8th Tier Dark Art or higher.[1]
